Adventure to the Beach


"Rocky Rapids"
Rough Spots
Moments one wishes to forget
Poking the feet til they bleed
Current pushing into the gut
Must cross the river
Cannot stop half way
How long, though?
How much more pain?
No one knows
Must cross the river
Cannot halt now.

"Sole Survivor"
A blessing, though it stands alone.  The shady place to rest in the middle of desert-like sand dunes.  Although you might feel lonely, misunderstood, unliked or unpopular... never forget that your kindness, listening ear or story could provide shade for a traveler in need.

"Flight"
In a pack, together day and night
How to bid farewell when one takes flight?
What discomfort when another follows that way
Then leaves one member behind to stay!

"End of the Day"
Done
Finally
Nothing more
Only rest in store
Black silhouettes
Details no longer matter
Sit back and breathe
From today you are free

New Beginnings (DTS Part 1)

  Off on an adventure... how often have I said those words? Yet this time proves totally different, because for the first time I set off alone. All the travels and memories across my childhood included my family. And I love that. But this time God called me to follow Him solo. June of 2023 I went through Freedom in Christ's "7 Steps" ( Seven Steps ), a time of confession and submission before the Lord. Despite being terrified of "failing" God by returning to the same thoughts and patterns I might confess, I threw myself fully at God's feet. Truly He is faithful: "He gives grace to the humble." Angola (DTS Part 2)

  After 3 months of lecture phase, our DTS team went on outreach for two months. Our leaders had prayed long and hard about where to go. God opened many doors for Angola and Namibia, confirming His direction for us to serve there. We spent the first month in Angola. Junio, Natalia, Claudiana and Nicole were the staff members who came along with us to guide, organize, support, facilitate and translate (Angola is a Portuguese speaking nation). On the way- the first time flying for some of the students Arriving as the sun sets Welcome to Luanda, Angola! December Moments

December has been jam packed- a lot busier than normal village life! While I cannot share all of it without doing a biblical length blog, I wanted to give some snapshots. First off, sweet Emalai is our family's little Ugandan. She loves to help her friends cook, fetch water, work in the garden or bathe children. Makai got really into his choir singing this month. One night, he made up several songs about baby Jesus in the manger. When Dad told him it was time for bed, Makai sang in response, "Baby Jesus is in the manger and I don't want to go to bed." Makai and I love playing together. One day, he decided we were "hunnies" (a married couple) and proceeded to get us dressed up for a short wedding in front of the Christmas tree. Emalai stole my "hunny" when I was at youth group. They sat together at our kid's table for a date. This lasted every meal for weeks. Residue after spraying an army of ants that invaded our house.
